Ladino, also called Judeo-Spanish, is the language of the Sephardi Jews who were expelled out of Spain in 1492 by the Catholic Kings.

Learning Ladino will open wide a window for you to the very essence of the Mediterranean and its cultures, being a real mixture, or meeting-point of many cultures and languages. It will also allow you to get a look at Medieval Spain, as Ladino mothers preserved many Iberian medieval folk songs and ballades and the language itself preserves many archaic features. Even now, you can listen to Ladino songs on major music outlets!

With our Ladino expert, you will be learning mainly the Izmir dialect, influenced by some features of the Jerusalem dialect, the dialect combination most widely studied today.

With this, you have three options:

  • Skype calls without online content - great for those who already know a bit of Ladino and just want to practise their conversation skills

  • Online content only - for those who want to dip their toe into Ladino and want to take their learning at their own pace and time

  • Online content and Skype - our most popular option, you have the opportunity to delve deeper into Ladino and practise what you' have learned online with your native Ladino expert.
